American Woman
American Woman (AW) is a solo show development and presentation program that centralizes Female-identifying writers living in the United States.
This is for playwrights who already have a full draft of their solo show.
AW participants are chosen after a considered process informed by DQT’s core values of equity, community, good faith, and artistry.
This new play development program will once again be led by Latinidad Award winner Raquel Almazan, who borrows from several methods, including Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process to guide the experience.
Plays developed in this program include:
Anatar Marmol-Gagne’s Sueños (AW 2018, subsequently presented by ArtSpace, New Haven, CT, in February 2021)
Melanie Marie Goodreaux’s Rita is the Goat (AW in 2021, subsequently presented by The Foundry, West Stockbridge, MA, in August 2021)
Tanya Perez’s Welcome to Clowntown (AW in 2022, subsequently presented by The Tank in April 2023)
Madeline Barr’s Diary Play (AW in 2022, subsequently presented at Arts on Site in June 2023)
The goal of American Woman is to facilitate growth for both the play and the playwright.
