Classics in Color
Classics in Color (CiC) is a new play development and presentation program that centralizes BIPoC playwrights with early drafts of plays which combine the BIPoC lived experience with narratives from the Global Canon.
This program is for playwrights who already have a full draft of their play.
CiC participants are chosen after a considered process informed by DQT’s core values of equity, community, good faith, and artistry.
This new play development program will once again be led by OBIE Award winner Caridad Svich, who brings to this role years of experience teaching playwriting at universities across the country including Yale, Rutgers, and Ohio State.
Plays developed in this program include:
Oliver Mayer’s Yerma in Vitro (CiC 2024, subsequently DQT Presents…2025)
Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj’s Waiting (CiC 2024, subsequently development opportunities at both the HB Studio Residency 2025 and the New Harmony Project’s Annual Writers Residency 2025)
The goal of Classics in Color is to facilitate growth for both the play and the playwright.
