Michael Mejias

is a playwright, producer, and representation advocate in both the theatre and publishing industries. He is also the founding executive director of the dramatic question theatre (dqt). His dqt producing credits include the developmental readings of dozens of plays including riding the bear by carmen rivera and la esperanza by raquel almazan. he’s the chief architect of all of dqt’s new play development programs including classics in color, american woman, and playtime. his dqt playwriting credits include mujeriego (as part of word menagerie: an evening of monologues at theatre for the new city, 2010); ghetto babylon (at 59E59 Theatres, 2013); and, waiting for lucy (as part of a series of readings at the people’s united bank, 2016). mr. mejias is the recipient of the 2012 national latino playwriting award and a 2019 nysca-nyfa playwriting fellowship.  

Since 1999, he’s worked at the literary agency, writers house and has advocated for representation in publishing. to that end, in 2000, he founded and is the director of the writers house intern program which has, to date, placed over 750 of its graduates in entry-level publishing jobs, with over a third of those placed being from the bipoc space. And, in 2020, he founded and is the director of the writers house mentor initiative, an online opportunity for bipoc to get access to publishing professionals and gain valuable exposure to the industry. In  2017, he co-founded and is the executive director of inkluded, a non-profit organization dedicated to training bipoc publishing aspirants and placing them in their first publishing jobs. By way of facilitating this, he designed and launched inkluded academy, a free publishing course, offered each summer to BIPoC who want to pursue careers in the book business.
