Who says the holiday season is over?

dqt is carrying the winter festivities straight to the end of january with the holiday monologues, a quartet of monologues by linh chia, olaiya olayemi, noemi de la puente and maria elena torres. The director is amy brentano.

Along with working at The Foundry and artistically as a theatre/ performance artist, Noh has recently shifted gears to provide technical support to live performance during this new era of online events.

Working through several platforms such as YouTube/ Zoom/ Facebook Live etc. They have provided technical support for recent online events such as the Bindlestiff Family Circus's "Open Stage: Quarantine Edition", The People's Portfolio 2020 Inspiring Leadership Award Ceremony, and many others. They are very excited to be joining this project with DQT and to help bring these monologues to you through your screen.

She moved to the Berkshires from New York City in 2002. A theater artist and educator, her dream has long been to acquire a physical space where challenging, new work is supported, unheard stories are given a platform, and artists generous of spirit convene and produce work that questions old ideas and leaps across cultural boundaries.

Brentano served as Artistic Director for Red Earth Ensemble, a non-profit theater producing original work in NYC for ten years, was a member of Teatron, a theatre company producing work at La Mama ETC, and is a co-artistic director of Bazaar Productions Inc. in the Berkshires. She remains committed to bringing diverse audiences and artists together to create dialogue and challenge perspectives.

LINH CHIA (Writer, Performer) is a 2021 season fellow of DQT’s American Woman.

She first became involved as a performer in the previous season. She received her acting training from William Esper Studio’s Two-Year Meisner Acting Program in New York City. She has been featured in commercials, industrials, print advertisements, as well as short films. Besides writing and acting, she is also a licensed esthetician and works in the beauty industry.

NOEMI de la PUENTE (Writer, Performer) is an actress, playwright, librettist, lyricists, and founding member of the Dramatic Question Theatre.

She received her MFA in Theatre Arts from the University of Iowa (Patricia Roberts Harris Scholarship), as well as a Master of Science in Engineering from Princeton University, and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. Ms.de la Puente’s solo show, Fountain of Youth, was premiered in New York City by the Dramatic Question Theatre. Her debut musical, Manuel vs. The Statue of Liberty, was first developed in DQT’s 2010 Playwrights/Directors Lab at the Theatre for the New City and subsequently presented as a reading at the 2014 New York Musical Festival, where it received the Developmental Reading Series Award. At the 2015 festival, Manuel was nominated for Best Musical and won a Special Award for Social Relevance and Impact. Manuel vs. the Statue of Liberty was a finalist for the 2016 O’Neill National Music Theatre Conference. Most recently, DQT presented The Pet Play as a workshop production. Generic Hispanic was produced by the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre and was a finalist for the 2012 MultiStages New Works Contest. Her other playwriting credits include The Revenge of Suicide Jack, Lightning Strikes Twice, and Promesa. Ms. de la Puente’s honors and awards include artist grants from the Yip Harburg Foundation, the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust, the HOLA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Ensemble Acting, and the Patricia Roberts Harris Scholarship from the University of Iowa. Ms. de la Puente is formerly a member of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre’s Professional Playwrights Unit, a member of the Musical Theatre Factory Writers Group, and a member of the Dramatists Guild of America. Ms. de la Puente is also a fierce environmental activist and community advocate. She works with the New Jersey Environmental Lobby; an organization dedicated to bringing the best environmental practices from around the country to the state. Ms. de la Puente also volunteers at the Trenton Digital Initiative, collecting used computers to refurbish and gift to under resourced elementary schools. She is an active member of the Princeton Graduate Alumni Association, serving as the Co-Chair of the Community Service Committee.

While attending Western Senior High School, in Baltimore MD she won the Alpha Phi Alpha Oratory Contest at John Hopkins University. With a Bachelors of Arts in Broadcasting, Mass Media, and Telecommunications from Temple University, Brandi began her career in New York when she was offered a scholarship to study acting for film at The New York Film Academy in 2012. While there she stage-managed their first full-length theatrical production directed by William Sun, director of The Shanghai Theater Academy. After graduating, Brandi performed in the Academy’s Honor’s Ensemble held at the New York Player’s Club. She held the title of Production Manager of the Dirk Swain Foundation while also performing in their sell out hit, I Choose To Be Me. Also during her time in New York, she stage-managed for director Sanja Bestic in the Off-Broadway World Premier of Jackie & Marilyn while also rehearsing for her appearance in the Off-off Broadway premier of The Story of Yu-Huan, a test to her Mandarin skills, directed by Joanna Chan; founder of The Yangtze Repertory Theatre of America and choreographed by Ashley Liang. Before moving back to Baltimore she appeared in several T.V. shows as a background actor including Law and Order SVU and My Dirty Little Secret. Since moving back to Baltimore she has played the lead in multiple productions by Battle Stage Plays and Unified Voices of Johns Hopkins, written by Ursula Battle and directed by Dr. Gregory Branch. In 2016 she directed and co-wrote her first full-length stage play, When The Worst Comes First; produced by Grayson Events. In 2017. In 2018 Brandi produced and starred in the sold out hit, “Dream BIG” a story about human trafficking. In 2019 Brandi produced The Sunday Showcase, another sold out spectacular that entertained guests with live music, spoken word, stand up comedy, and a short play written by and starring Brandi. Closely following this success, in February 2020 Brandi found herself off Broadway, landing a lead role in the UJAMAA Black American Theater Presents “Please Don’t Take My Rhythms and Blues : The Soulmates”.

She is a National YoungArts winner in writing, as well as the founder of County Films, a New Jersey production company with a mission to create fresh authentic media for young audiences. Rey currently works at Writers House as an administrative assistant.

her work is informed by blk/queer/feminist theories/aesthetics/and politics and african indigenous and diasporic spiritual traditions. she has performed at Brooklyn Arts Exchange, JACK, AAA3A, metaDEN, The Wild Project, The Langston Hughes House, Starr Bar, Mayday Space, and Dixon Place. she holds a bachelor of arts in english/creative writing (with a minor in african/black diaspora studies) from depaul university and a master of fine arts in creative writing from emerson college where she was a recipient of the Dean’s Fellowship. she is a 2019-2020 Performance Fellow in Queer Art’s mentorship program, a Fall 2020 Brooklyn Arts Exchange Space Grantee, a finalist in Fresh Fruit’s Film/Monologue Festival, a 2020-2021 American Woman Fellow in Dramatic Question Theatre’s American Woman Lab, and a 2020-2021 participant in Gibney Dance’s Black Diaspora group. her experimental screenplay was recently advanced to second round consideration for the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab. she currently lives in philadelphia.

MARIA ELENA TORRES (Writer) is the founding artistic director of Dramatic Question Theatre (DQT), where she has co-produced Word Menagerie: An Evening of Monologues (2009); The Ballad of Him & Her (2009); Firehouse (2010); Bill – A Rake’s Tale (2012); The Maltinsky Cycle: Play One (2012); Cowl Girl (2013); The Pet Play (2018); and, In The Night Everyone is Equal (2019).

Ms. Torres’ work focuses on bringing history to life. Her plays include Three Men on a Base, which looks at the relationship between Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey; Wallenberg, a play about a meeting, in 1944, between Raoul Wallenberg and Adolph Eichmann; two plays which explore the truth of Richard III's character and career; and a cycle of plays about Diderot and his quest to bring access to knowledge to as many people he could reach. Her plays have been produced by the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, the Theatre for the New City, Soho Playhouse, the Julia Borges Latino Cultural Center, and HB Studios. She is working on the latest installment of The Maltinsky Cycle, a series of plays about her mother's Eastern European Jewish family, its escape from the Pale of Settlement and its assimilation into the United States. To that end, Sarah Rifka’s Secret was developed in DQT’s inaugural American Woman Lab and will be presented in June 2020 at Theatrelab, NYC. A champion of new works by under-represented voices, Ms. Torres spearheaded and co-facilitated the Playwrights/ Directors Lab (2010) and groundUp (2014), two of DQT’s major play development projects. She’s a Brooklyn native and graduate of Brooklyn College, where she developed her first play under the guidance of Jack Gelber. Ms. Torres is a former member and Director of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre’s Professional Playwrights Unit, a member of the HB Studios Playwrights Unit, and a member of the Dramatists Guild.
